Why we didn't interfare with Boko Haram as they brought in the Dapchi girls - Nigerian Military
The Nigerian military has given an explanation on why Boko Haram members returned the abducted school girls to Dapchi community in Yobe state on Wednesday March 21st without any military interference. Recall that the sect members in the early hours on Wednesday, drove into the community, dropped the girls and left without any military officer stopping them.
This scenario according to the residents of the community, is a replica of how the girls were kidnapped. No military officer was in sight when the sect members stopped their school and abducted them. Speaking to Channels TV, the spokesperson of the Defence Headquarters, Brig. Gen. John Agim, said negotiations with the terrorists for the safe return of the girls required the military to stand down.
''The issue is that at the time the government was doing the negotiations, the government was under pressure to see that the girls were returned. So, the Boko Haram members said they will drop the girls in their community. At that time, the government could not have said no we don't want you to return the girls because it may either delay the process or they will refuse. So, they allowed them to bring the girls'' he said
