I am not rich enough to open a record label - Adekunle Gold says

Since his exit from the Olamide led YBNL record label which produced the likes of Lil Kesh, Young John, Viktoh, Chinko Ekun and most recently the only female on the label, Temmy Ovwasa, Adekunle Gold has been on a mission to establish himself as a unique hit-maker with class and style but he seems not to be in a rush as he has been taking it bit by bit.

In a chat with Showtime, the Sade crooner who is currently concluding plans for the maiden edition of his concert, ‘One Night Stand with Adekunle Gold’, scheduled to hold on December 26, at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, told Showtime  that he’s presently not rich enough to confidently run a record label like some of his colleagues.

“I may not have announced, but I’m under a record label called ‘Afro Urban’, a label I run by myself and my team, I’ve been running it for about a year now. I don’t know if I’ll be signing on other artistes yet, I don’t have such vision for now to be honest, but I may in the future. It’s something I’ll like to do but I don’t want to put myself in a situation where I make such announcements and it’s not happening, so for now I don’t know. It’s not easy to run a label I’m not going to say because I have some money and contacts in the industry then I jump into it, no; I have to do it right. Shout out to artistes running their own labels, it’s actually amazing, but the kind of label I want to run I don’t have the capacity for now.”

He went on to explain why he decided to shroud his new label in secrecy, unlike his former label mate, Lil Kesh, who announced the establishment and launch of his own record label after parting ways with YBNL. “I didn’t announce it because there is no reason to talk about it, as long as you listen to the music then its fine by me.”

On his what his fans should expect from his forthcoming concert, Adekunle said “It’s going to be an amazing night. I’m not a fan of saying too many things but I know it’s going to be an amazing night; it’s going to be a concert that has never been done before, it’s going to be a different one. You know Adekunle Gold is different, it’s not going to be like your regular concerts; I don’t want to say everything but I’m coming with everything because it’s going to be a night where we’ll talk and then sing our hearts out.”
