Outrage as FRSC officials smashes a car's windscreen after the driver refused to park (Video)

The conduct of some officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has stirred outrage after a video showing a female officer struggling with the driver of a moving car along Wuse Road, Abuja, on Wednesday went viral on the Internet.

While it remains unclear what the offence of the vehicle occupants was, the officials had resorted to force in an attempt to arrest the driver.

In the less than 2-minute footage, the female officer can be seen struggling to apply the handbrake from the seat behind while in motion, even as the driver and his passenger tried to keep her at bay.

The Punch reports the driver, whose name had yet to be ascertained and his friend, one Benjamin Mogazi, were on the way to their office around 7am.

The driver was said to have been flagged down by a team of FRSC officials, but refused to park by the roadside, which made a female official among the team to enter into the car.

Apparently peeved by the refusal of the driver to comply with rules, the female official then resorted to struggling from the back seat to apply the handbrake in a desperate attempt to bring the vehicle to a halt.

In the video, a patrol van belonging to the FRSC can also be seen apparently in pursuit of the vehicle during the ugly affray.

Toward the end of the video, which was posted by Mogazi on Facebook, a male officer jumped out of the FRSC van and shattered the front window on the passenger side of the car.

Meanwhile, the FRSC has said it is investigating two of its officials caught on video physically assaulting a driver.

The FRSC spokesperson, Bisi Kazeem, on Thursday told pressmen that the agency was aware of the video and had summoned the officials.

“Yes, we have seen it and we have identified the people in the video and they’ve been recalled for investigation,” Mr. Kazeem said.
“If they are found guilty, they’ll be sanctioned but there must be investigation first.
“In this technology days, everything has to be properly investigated, but we will leave no stone unturned if eventually they are found guilty.”
